LAKE MANYARA SERENA - TANZANIA

Lake ManyaraLake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge is perched on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment with one of the greatest views over the Great Rift Valley and its soda lake. It is difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting.

The lake is renowned among ornithologists for its birds of prey and the famous tree-climbing lions that inhabit the woodland that nestles between the lake and the Rift Valley.

The lodge glows with tranquillity and peace. The design was inspired by the area’s abundant bird life: swooping curves are complemented by soft, geometric patterns and stylish plaster mouldings adorn the walls. Accommodation and public areas are housed in individual thatched circular buildings and are a tribute to local architectural traditions.

Lake ManyaraThe lodge has 67 bedrooms and a stunning swimming pool with exceptional views of Lake Manyara.
Activities, which are one of the lodge’s specialities, include daily excursions to the Great Rift Valley and National Park, walking safaris, mountain bike and canoe safaris, mountain climbing, nature walks and traditional dance performances in the evenings. The lodge is a favourite of young clients seeking adventure activities and of those looking for a safari experience that is different from the usual one and which brings the visitors into close contact with nature and wildlife.


KIRAWIRA CAMP- TANZANIA

Kirawira CampClose to the Grumeti River, famed for its giant crocodiles, perched on a hill with uninterrupted views of the plains of the Western Serengeti, Kirawira Camp offers its guests a luxurious tented African safari.

Kirawira is a reincarnation of a Victorian tented camp and guests enjoy luxurious accommodation, a valet service, superb house cuisine, fine wines and the best of East African hospitality. Throughout the camp, native wood, African art and tented canvas are combined with typical Victorian and colonial furniture to recall a bygone era of explorers, pioneers and the early colonial settlers. The accommodation is housed in de luxe individual tents set on wooden platforms. Each has a spacious double bedroom and bathroom, styled from the Victorian period with African art, and a private verandah from which there are spectacular views over the endless Serengeti.

KirawiraThe lush vegetation around Kirawira is home to a wide variety of large game: lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, baboon, gazelle and wildebeest. It is also an area abundant in bird life, which is regularly encountered around the camp itself.

Kirawira Camp has 25 luxurious double tents and a swimming pool, and prides itself on the personal attention given to each guest. Excellent cuisine can be prepared either according to guest recipes or cooked to-order from the house. Activities include guided walks and driving safaris, fishing and sailing on Lake Victoria, bush lunches, crocodile safaris by the Grumeti River and slide presentations daily by the resident naturalist.

NGORONGORO SERENA LODGE -TANZANIA

NgorongoroOften described as the ‘Eighth’ Wonder of the World, the Ngorongoro crater is so spectacular that it touches all the senses. A volcanic crater of over 259 square kilometres with surrounding walls rising 609 metres above it, the crater is a natural sanctuary for over 25,000 animals, including the black rhino. It is also a conservation area inhabited by the Masai tribe.

The Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is built onto the rim of this amazing natural phenomenon, a stunning plant and local creeper covered stone lodge where guests co-exist in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment and wildlife. Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, close to some of the earliest dwellings of man in Olduvai Gorge, has taken their cave paintings as inspiration. It is built of stones and boulders and is literally hidden in the vegetation of the crater’s rim, disappearing completely from view from the crater’s floor.

NgorongoroThe interiors are filled with exquisite wooden furniture and African artefacts, and stunning frescoes adorn the walls of many rooms and public areas. All bedrooms have private terraces with uninterrupted views across the grasslands, forests, lakes and rivers that make up the crater floor.

The hotel has 75 rooms. Activities include game drives through the crater where you will see a microcosm of Africa in one day, bush walks, picnic lunches, excursions to the nearby Oldavai Gorge, the ‘birthplace of mankind’ and a variety of cultural events.

SERENGETI SERENA - TANZANIA

Serengeti serenaSet high on a hill with 360 degree views out over the Serengeti savannah, the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge combines luxury with simplicity and is Africa at its very best.

Inspired by the traditional African village, the lodge is rich in local atmosphere and the bedrooms are housed in individual thatched huts. These huts are furnished with authentic African furniture and handicrafts, with balconies overlooking the awesome expanse of the Serengeti. Communal areas of the lodge are created out of thatch and indigenous wood and give guests a true ‘out of Africa’ experience. Great attention has been paid to both architectural and decorative detailing and the lodge is a photographer’s joy.

Derived from the Masai word ‘siringet’ meaning endless plains, the Serengeti is one of the world’s last great wildlife refuges. From the Serengeti Serena you can enjoy safari drives or balloon safaris and experience the awesome spectacle of the annual migration that is one of nature’s wonders, or simply enjoy the outstanding quality and variety of cuisine.

The lodge has 66 bedrooms and a stunning swimming pool. Activities on offer include daily game drives, balloon safaris, sunset cocktails by the pool, traditional dance performances and slide presentations by the resident naturalist. Bush breakfast and bush dinner may be arranged during your stay.

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE - TANZANIA

Mt. VillageNestling in the heart of a coffee plantation on the shores of Lake Duluti, near to Arusha, the gateway town of Tanzania’s spectacular national parks, Mountain Village - Arusha is the perfect place to relax before or after experiencing the adventure of a Serena Safari.

Mountain Village will give guests a true experience of a coffee plantation and is designed as an African village. It is renowned for its collection of spectacular bougainvillaea. Accommodation is housed in banana stem thatched huts, grouped in semi-circles around tropical shade trees. All guest rooms have private balconies that boast magnificent views of the mighty snow-capped Kilimanjaro on one side and Lake Duluti and the rugged peaks of Mount Meru on the other. Mountain Village, built in January 1989, has been under Serena management since 1st October 2000.

The area is an ornithologist’s paradise. The nature trail around the magical Lake Duluti provides a sanctuary for over 130 different bird species. Guests can take a relaxing walk along Lake Duluti spotting all the stunning African birds or wander through the coffee plantations around the lodge.

The Lodge has 46 guest rooms (36 twins and six superior rooms). The restaurant and bar are located in the Old Colonial Farmhouse which has all modern amenities. Activities include lake shore walks to see the Colobus monkeys, forest antelope and the abundant bush life. Excursions can be made to Mount Meru, mountain climbing of the famous Mount Kilimanjaro and trips to the markets of Arusha.

ZANZIBAR SERENA

Zanzibar SerenaLocated in the heart of Stone Town, this stunning property is set in two historic seafront buildings that have been integrated and restored into a unique single property echoing the grandeur of days past. One was an 18th century house, the other the offices of telecommunication in later colonial times. Stone Town is a legendary place full of old palaces with intricately carved doors and colourful spice and fruit markets. Often, it still smells of the cloves that gave it riches in times past. Zanzibar’s Stone Town was issued World Heritage Site status by UNESCO’s Bureau of the World Heritage Committee. This was announced during the 24th session of The World Heritage Committee held on 23rd-24th November 2000 in Cairns, Australia.

The hotel is elegance itself as well as romantic and it offers the best in island hospitality. All the bedrooms overlook the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and the lazy dhows that plough beneath the restaurant’s windows. The interiors echo Zanzibar’s rich Arab influence: intricately carved doors and furniture coupled with colourful mosaic flooring. The local specialities are freshly caught seafood with spices. A team of chefs prepare sumptuous meals daily that guests enjoy in the seafront restaurant.

Zanzibar SerenaThe hotel has 51 bedrooms and a lovely private swimming pool overlooking the ocean. Activities include excursions to Stone Town with its winding streets, beautiful houses and museums, to Jozani Forest, home to the Red Colobus monkey, extensive watersports, round-the-island trips, scuba diving and snorkelling, day-boat trips to nearby beaches and islands and native Arab-influenced entertainment in the evenings.

The most spectacular of excursions is to the Serena owned Mangapwani where guests can experience a succession of dazzlingly white hidden and secluded beaches, spice gardens, private watersports and the most sumptuous dining in simple elegance.

SERENGETI SOPA

SerengetiLooking out over the seemingly endless Serengeti plains, this hillside lodge is a tranquil oasis set in over 14,000 sq kms (5,000 sq miles) of National Park. The Serengeti plains are host to a dramatic annual migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and numerous other species of animals indigenus to the area

Opened in 1992, the lodge can accommodate 170 guests in 79 suites, each enjoying wall-to-wall carpeting, a private lounge with a mini bar, a bedroom with two queen size beds and ample room for a third, an en-suite bathroom with shaver sockets and a hair dryer, and a private verandah which offers stunning views over the plains.

Serengeti SopaThe lodge has direct-dial satelite telephone facilities as well as satellite television and wildlife-video-film options.A number of lodge electrical generating systems provide 240volts, 50 cycles 24 hours a day. Our water supply comes from nearby springs but guests are advised not to drink from the taps. Instead, complimentary bottled mineral water is provided in the mini bars while further stocks are available for sale in the main bar. We welcome kids of all ages and can provide both special meals at convenient times and baby sitters on request.Our guest shop stocks a wide selection of curios, gift items, clothing, film, sweets, postcards, personal requisites and toiletries, while the other offers gemstones, jewelery and other more unusual items. The double size pool offers a refreshing interlude between game drives as well as wondeful views over the rolling plains of the Serengeti. Also, we can supply diesel and can carry out most minor repairs.

TARANGIRE SOPA

Completing the Northern Tanzania safari circuit the lodge, built as a 'low profile' structure, nestles into a wooded hillside valley overlooking Tarangire Hill. Situated 120km (75 miles) from Arusha, Tarangire National Park is easily accessible and boasts magnificent herds of elephant and other species of wildlife. The baobab studded landscape also plays host to a vast variety of resident and migratory bird life. Looking out over the rolling countryside the lodge is a tranquil oasis set in over 2,600 sq kms (900 sq miles) of National Park. The Tarangire flows north to south year-round and sustains an abundance of fauna and flora rarely seen elsewhere

All 32 rooms are tastefully furnished, with hand-crafted four poster beds and indigenous decor, and all have balconies, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, hair-dryers, electronic safes and en suite facilities with deluxe bathroom amenities.

Mosquito nets over all beds ensure a peaceful night's sleep, with the sound of the ocean rounding off a relaxing day in paradise.

Lodge rooms have a garden view and both types of chalet room (superior and superior deluxe) have a sea view, with proximity to the ocean being closer the higher the category.
